San Juan, Puerto Rico

Last year,  Mr. UR and I were able to get away to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. We flew into San Juan and stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott on Isla Verde Beach. We stayed in a 2 room suite overlooking the beach. There was a pool area with swimming iguanas (seriously) that you could feed greens to. And there were hammocks to relax in. And most importantly, it was located on the route of La Vuelta - a 3 day, 375 mile bike ride around the island. We had 2 friends participating in the ride so we were able to cheer them on in the early morning hours ( and dark) on the first day.

The hotel also had something I have always wanted to do - a swim-up bar! The beach was very pretty but it was on a bit of a slant so taking a beach walk was a little difficult. Not your walk-for-miles kind of beach. And it was a very short ride from the airport to the hotel. A taxi ride to Old San Juan was quite a bit longer - about 15 minutes away but still do able. We didn't try out any of the restaurants as we had a nice balcony to view the ocean, and cheese and wine were perfect for a low-key dinner.
