Boston's Waterfront

Moms of little kids sometimes don't have time to brush their teeth but moms of grown kids, especially those who live far from them, don't get to see their kids nearly enough. Last year Mr. UR got bumped from his airline flight and received travel vouchers as compensation. So we used the vouchers to travel to see our two oldest kids. Last week we flew to Boston, missing The Boston Freedom Festival by a week, to visit our oldest daughter.

Our daughter had to work the first day of our visit so we decided to take a walk along Boston's waterfront. We happened to be staying on the water and we had never been in this area before so it was an easy choice.

The weather was perfect - sunny and in the 70's. We started by sitting outside on some really comfy seating at the more upscale establishment of Smith and Wollensky's. There was an afternoon concert going on and we enjoyed the music and the view.

Moving on, we walked by The Boston Tea Party museum where there were kids dumping tea into the harbor from a ship. And people getting their picture taken with this gentlemen. So I had to do it too! (I don't know what the appeal of getting your picture with a statue is but I always have to do it)

We passed by the famous Hood milk bottle in front of the Children's Museum and headed down to The Barking Crab enjoying this stellar view.

The Barking Crab was a more casual place and I enjoyed their sangria while Mr. UR had a beer - I can't remember but probably a Sam Adams since we were in Boston. There were people wearing bibs and enjoying crab while some were just chillin in the sunshine.

By then our daughter was off work and we walked about 10 minutes away for dinner. Good food, good views and good company.

I was very surprised to see these jellyfish in the water. I didn't think that jellyfish would be this far north in the colder water.

Also,  if you are in Boston or are going there, don't miss the art installation in front of the Intercontinental over the Greenway. Here is a daytime view and nighttime view. (I'm pretty sure I took 20 photos of it and it looked different in each one.)

Have you been to Boston's waterfront?

  1. Haven't been to Boston at all but would like to visit! I think I would go directly to the waterfront and have some of those crabs. Love the dress you were using that day.

    1. Thanks Ruth! I always seem to be drawn to water - even in cities it's always my favorite area and I really liked this part of Boston.

  2. I think I've eaten at the Barking Crab, and that Boston Children's Museum is one of the best that I've ever visited in the world. Boston is such a cool place, and your daughter is fortunate to call it home. I'll be up there next summer for my cousin's wedding and can't wait to explore some more.

  4. It's been years since we've visited Boston and we're hoping to go in a couple of months. So, this was a great read and timely. I'm now excited to explore and kids throwing tea may be just what my kids need too. Looks like you had a fantastic time and great weather too.
