Armchair travel in a Time of Pandemic
It's a scary and uncertain time in our world right now. Travel has come to a halt, cities are on lockdown and the economy is in a tailspin. So this week I'm bringing you some ways to travel from the comfort of your own home - armchair travel, if you will - until we the seat belt sign is off and we can move about the cabin. Here are a few virtual travel ideas:
20 Amazing Places You Can Visit Without Leaving Home -
Travelzoo is one of my favorite discount travel websites. Every week, in newsletter form, they send out the Top 20 travel deals they have found. This week they switched it up and sent out 20 Amazing Places You Can Visit Without Leaving Home. The list includes such places as: SafariLive, Volcanoes National Park, The Taj Mahal and Deep Dives. I plan on visiting all 20!

Nicki Positano
Nicki is a British woman living with her Italian partner and bilingual daughter in Positano, Italy. She is a make-up artist who worked on a video shoot for Andrea Bocelli some 20 years ago, met Carlo and never left Italy. She posts You Tube videos of everyday life along the Amalfi Coast. Check out her channel where she will take you to the Isle of Capri, on a scooter ride along the coast or sometimes to England. Currently she is doing every other day Quarantine videos to show what life is like under lockdown.

Alastair Humphreys - Living Adventurously
If you would like to go on adventures from your armchair then Alastair Humphreys is your guy. Alastair is an English adventurer and author who has bicycled 46,000 miles around the world, walked across India and rowed the Atlantic. He has written 10 books about his adventures and currently posts about them on his You Tube channel and podcast, Living Adventurously.

Of course, I would be remiss without reminding you of some past Unpaved Road's blog posts for some armchair travel.

And for something uplifting, check these spots out - it will do your heart some good -
Tips from Italians on Handling a Lockdown in Style
Nancy Raff, an American expat living in Tuscany, shares her experiences on her website. Smarter Travel picked up her article Tips from Italians on Handling a Lockdown in Style which highlights Stay at Home Flash Mobs and Signs of Italian Pride.
The Happiness Project
Gretchen Rubin is a best selling author of 10 books, including The Happiness Project, and has a popular weekly podcast, Happier. If you feel the need to be a little happier right now, then head to her website where you can read excerpts from her books, read her blog and listen to her podcast - they're all destined to make you ....well, happier.
And last but not least, one of my favorites.
An Oklahoma Museum Guard Becomes an Unlikely New Social Media Star
Tim, the head of security at Oklahoma City's National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, wasn't on social media. He didn't know about The Facebook, The Twitter or The Instagram. But when the museum closed due to the corona virus, Tim became the new "content creator". Admittedly a newbie and not tech savvy, Tim takes his followers on a tour around the museum and is learning hashtags - his grandson told him to use them. No matter who you are, I think you'll find this article uplifting!
