STAY: Kimpton Born, Denver, Colorado
If you've been around here for very long, then you'll know that I'm a big fan of the Kimpton hotel chain. Mr. UR and I realized that we had a certificate for one free night at an IHG property - of which Kimpton is one - that was going to expire. I can't think of a bigger no-no than not using a certificate for a free hotel stay. So we booked the downtown Denver Kimpton Hotel Born for a winter Friday night and headed downtown for a relaxing evening.
Some of the perks of staying at a Kimpton include a daily social hour with drinks provided in the lobby, complimentary wifi, no extra charge for pets plus benefits for them such as loaner pet beds, food, water bowls and mats for your pets (and even a Director of Pet Relations in every hotel), complimentary bikes in every hotel and yoga mats in every room and cell phone chargers, curling irons, humidifiers, lint rollers and a bevy of other items you can check out from the front desk.
The Kimpton Hotel Born in Denver has a "modern alpine" vibe so it was only fitting that we started our visit with social hour wine by the fireplace. Then we took advantage of the hotel car that will take you within a mile radius and headed to Wynkoop Brewing for our evening meal. After a good pub food meal with a Wynkoop brew, we walked back to the hotel. The hotel bar was hopping but we managed to find a seat to use our Raid the Bar credit.
The next morning was a short walk to Union Station, Denver's historical and revamped train station - which we could see from our room - and breakfast at Snooze, Denver's popular am eatery. I had the OMG French Toast - brioche bread stuffed with house made marscapone topped with vanilla creme and fresh strawberries. And OMG, it was so good! Mr. UR went with the Sam I am - scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese and sausage on a soft pretzel roll topped with house made hollandaise. I think we picked two winners for sure.
And with that our short getaway was over. But I would highly recommend Kimpton Hotel Born in downtown Denver. The service was good, it's close to the Union Station and the surrounding neighborhood has lots of choice for things to do and places to eat.
How about you? Have you stayed at a Kimpton before?
