STAY: Adrift Hotel and Spa, Long Beach, Washington
If you've been around here for awhile, you'll know that most of our stays on our travels are in chain hotels using points - if possible - or in budget properties. Our Southwest Companion Pass (you can read about that here) expires next month so we're trying to make the most of it until that happens. So we booked a flight to Portland, Oregon for a weekend getaway as a belated anniversary trip. And drove to Long Beach, Washington (2 hours northwest of Portland). And since there were no chains on the peninsula that we could use points at, we decided to splurge for one night and stay at Adrift Hotel and Spa, a " hotel with modern industrial rooms and ocean views".
Adrift is part of a group of six boutique hotels concentrated on the Pacific Coast (4 on the Long Beach peninsula and 2 in Astoria, Oregon on the Columbia River) that began as a single coastal boutique hotel in 2004. They are run as a Social Purpose Corporation which means that they are for-profit but they place social and environmental considerations at the same level as fiscal considerations - such as paying a living wage, giving great benefits and supporting Pacific Northwest artisans, farmers and growers. (And the restaurant, Pickled Fish, located at the hotel is an Ocean Friendly Restaurant)
Rooms range from the typical King or Queen room while Doubles, Bunks or Suites allow for more people. The decor is "modern industrial" while using recycled materials. There are two buildings - East and West - with all having ocean views but choose "ocean view" while booking for the best one. (There is no elevator in the East building) Wireless internet, memory foam mattresses, room service and a mini fridge are available in all rooms.

The pool house has a covered, heated - 95 degrees- saline pool, 3 barrel saunas, a fire pit and the full service spa (extra charge) I enjoyed my dip here on a very windy, rainy night and then a turn in the sauna to warm me up. There are adult only hours - when we were there it was 7 to 9am and then 9 to 11pm.
And last but not least, their restaurant, Pickled Fish, sources locally made or grown food for their menu. Its spot on the top floor of the West building makes for great sunset watching from the floor to ceiling windows. We popped in for a beverage on Saturday night to do just that. Then we opted to have Sunday brunch here - the fruit/date bread french toast was fantastic - instead of dinner so we could enjoy those ocean views.
Our one night stay here was very enjoyable. And I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if there just weren't so many other places to see in this big, beautiful world!
How about you? Have you been to Long Beach? Or stayed at any of the Adrift hotels?
