STAY: The Bell Inn, Moreton In Marsh, Cotswolds, UK

We decided to travel around England using public transportation and not rent a car. So when I was planning where to stay in the Cotswolds, finding someplace with a train station was imperative. The market town of Moreton in Marsh looked to be the best bet as it was a small town (though it could be considered large for the Cotswolds) with train connections to London and even Oxford. Planning on using it as our base, I landed on The Bell Inn as our accommodations. And I'm so glad I did!

The Bell Inn is an eighteenth century "coaching" inn and is believed to be the inspiration for JRR Tolkien's Prancing Pony in Lord of the Rings. (The inn was one of Tolkien's regular stops when he was at Oxford University) Located in the center of town, it's about a five minute walk from the train station - we had no problem walking there and back with our suitcase. And the train station was the pick up point for both Cotswolds tours that we took with Go Cotswolds.

The inn was purchased by the current owners in 2015 and its 5 rooms were refurbished. Accommodations include a made to order breakfast- a full English breakfast or salmon - and all rooms are ensuite. Our room was large and airy with plenty of room for two people and two suitcases.

The pub encompasses the first floor and serves food not only in the pub but also in the outdoor beer garden in the summer months. (We were there in April and it wasn't open) A locally sourced menu is served along with a kids menu and of course, on Sundays, a Sunday roast.

The Bell Inn was the perfect place to stay for a few days in the Cotswolds and I'm so glad we landed here. I'd highly recommend it - and I'd definitely stay here again.
